Iontophoresis with Tap-Water
Tap-water Iontophoresis (Non-invasive, a conservative physical therapy for Hyperhidrosis) is a procedure in which water baths or damp electrodes provide a continuous pulse when applied to the sweating areas of the body. In general, Iontophoresis is mostly used for the treatment of palms, feet and underarm sweating.
The goal of Iontophoresis is to regulate the excessive sweating down to a natural level of sweating.
Iontophoresis treatment is carried out by simple hand and foot baths which are filled with tap water. A small electrode current is applied inside these trays whilst your hands/feet or positioned inside. The strength of the current can be increased until the patient feels a slight tingling. The current slows down the sweat gland secretion, without causing any damage to the perspiratory glands. For excessive sweat in the armpit area the electronic current is applied using wet sponges, which are placed under the armpits for around 10 to 15 minutes.
The sweat production of perspiring hands, feet, or armpits, can usually be very well regulated if the Iontophoresis treatment is successful. You can adjust the strength and length of the Iontophoresis unit so that it is suitable for your own individual treatment.
The DC and pulse current therapy devices have been used successfully for many years.
The Direct Current therapy device is used internationally by numerous clinical studies, due to its supreme effectiveness.
The pulse current therapy device is used for its novel Iontophoresis technology in scientific articles as the optimal treatment device for vulnerable patients, children and adolescents.
For many the pulsed current unit is a must, it provides a more comfortable therapy. Using the pulse current unit you are unlike to feel any tingling sensation from the electronic current.
Treat Hyperhidrosis without the electric fence effect
The hands and feet during the therapy for both procedures with the offered equipment without the previously known "fence" effect from the treatment tanks to be taken
The mostly unknown "fence" effect - that still occurs with many Iontophoresis devices from other manufacturers- no longer exists in the devices of the Idromed and Hidrex series. The fence effect is a very severe electric shock when (involuntary) treatment interruption of the current occurs.
When dividing the skin from the electrodes there should be a grid or sponge between the hand/foot and the electrode pad. If the gap between the hand/foot and the electrode pad is too big, the Iontophoresis unit current will stop. As soon as the current restarts the stored electrode energy will be transmitted all at once, causing a short sharp shock; it’s not dangerous, but it is painful.
With the units from Idromed and Hidrex you can take your hands/feet out of the trays without any electrical shock.
Powerful therapy against excessive sweating with Iontophoresis is a simple and fast application.
Initially, you conduct a 10 to 15 minute treatment each day for around two consecutive weeks. Sometimes it can take a little longer for the sweating to stop, so the initial phase may take a week or two extra. Its recommend that you use this phase to find a setting and treatment length-time that is suitable for your own needs, it’s always best to find a treatment routine that you are comfortable with. Once the sweating has stopped, you can begin the maintenance phase.
Maintenance Phase:
Once an acceptable level of sweating has been achieved, a top up treatment once every one or two weeks, using the same settings as you used in the initial phase, should be suitable enough to remain sweat free.
Cost-effective and convenient therapy, the Iontophoresis units can be used not only in a Doctors practice, but it is also safe and easy to operate for home use.
The Iontophoresis Therapy
After initial successful treatment and without further maintenance treatments, usually sweat will start to reappear after about two weeks. Initially the sweating will be only slight, but it will gradually return to pre-treatment levels after about 3-4 weeks. Further treatments will of course keep the sweating at bay.
The frequency and intensity of treatments required to maintain dry skin is highly variable: One of our customers only needs to use the device once every six months at a setting of 5 mA - whilst another customer needs a treatment every day for half an hour at 25 mA in order to maintain a comfortable level of dryness.
Our devices have the output of real 25 mA. They have the highest settings currently available on the market; most other Iontophoresis devices can only handle 2-10 mA.
After the sweating stops you will need to determine for yourself by trial and error how often and at what current intensity you need to be treated in order to remain dry.
Please note that we cannot tell you how long it will take for the sweating to stop in your case, this is impossible for us to know.
Iontophoresis therapy will not cause sweating to stop immediately; it is a gradual process which usually takes 10 to 15 treatments. Our customers find that after a certain amount of treatment, all of a sudden their sweating has completely stopped. The first set of treatments must be devotedly maintained; otherwise it is unlikely that the sweating will cease.
When the first sets of treatment begin most people will notice no reduction in the amount they sweat, in fact some people may even sweat more. You need to resolutely continue the initial treatments everyday for 10-20 minutes until your treated area finally remains dry. Patience is key to Iontophoresis; it can often take up to three weeks of treatments before results are eventually achieved.
However, if for some reason you do not achieve a satisfactory result, you can return the machine and obtain a full refund paid directly into your credit card account. We are confident though that you will obtain the result you are looking for if you persevere.
Some very fortunate customers achieve success after one treatment but others need to undertake a full 8 week course. If you are struggling with your treatments and you need help, then we will be ready to help you. Patience and perseverance can make all the difference for a successfully Iontophoresis therapy. After holding it out for a a few days up to a few weeks of daily treatment, many of our customers now know how good it feels to have warm, dry hands and feet - after so many years of being cold and sweaty. With the Idromed 5 it really can be quite a liberating feeling to know that you are free from the embarrassment and inconvenience of Hyperhidrosis. What is the best device for the best results?
It is easy to say that the best device we have available is our "pulsed current" unit. The Idromed 5 PS
With the Idromed 5 PS you will not feel the current as much as you would with other Iontophoresis devices. That is not to say that the Idromed GS is ineffective, however the GS device can sometimes cause irritation at higher current settings – this can be uncomfortable for those with sensitive skin or for use with children. This irritation is not as prominent with a PS deviceThe PS unit uses a ‘pulsed current’ whereas the GS device uses a ‘direct current’, this new pulsed-current Iontophoresis technology results in very little irritation, allowing current settings to be increased for a better result.
To give you an example of the difference between the two machines; An Idromed PS device running at a current of 25mA would feel similar to an Idromed GS device running at a current of 5mA, the setting goes higher but there is far less irritation caused. The higher the level you can adjust the current to, the more effect you will have.
Direct and pulsed direct currents will both have the same results, but a pulsed current Idromed is a must for…- Sensitive patients (especially children)- Underarm usage
- A more delicate treatment
If you are not able to spend so much money on the PC device, then we suggest you choose the DC device. With the DC device the current can be harder to tolerate and sensitive customers may not get the same result as wished. If you find you are unable to tolerate the ‘current settings required - you can return the machine using our 8 week trial. For Hyperhidrosis, the Iontophoresis-therapy using only tap-water with either the Idromed® 5 DC or PC device - is an appropriate and reliable solution. Without drugs, with very few side effects and without operations, Hyperhidrosis can be treated successfully in most cases.
