Hi.
I've decided to share my experience using iontophoresis as I have benefited from reading about other people's experiences and hopefully mine will help others.
I have suffered with palmar an plantar hyperhidrosis since I was a little girl. I'm 58 now!!!
I've struggled and suffered with it until I was 52 when I decided to buy the Hidrex ps500 after watching Embarrassing Bodies. I have been using the machine successfully for almost 6 years now.
My hyperhidrosis became really bad when I was a teenager and being born and living in Brazil at that time didn't really help. The sweat used to drip from my hands no matter what kind of weather we had and once my feet sweat so much that there was a wet patch on a wooden floor which was spotted by a friend at college. I was sooo embarassed!! At that time I became very introverted and avoided most social situations as much as I could. I've been to psychotherapists to try to help me to deal and accept the problem since I was 17 with not much success.
I moved to England at the age of 30 and luckily married a wonderful man who has always being very understanding and supportive. My problem with sweating has never bothered him but I used to find it very difficult to feel comfortable having freezing cold and wet hands and feet. At the age of 52 I spoke to my GP and asked to be referred to a specialist as I was considering having the operation which my GP was not very keen. Luckily that's when I watched Embarrassing Bodies.
I started using the Hidrex ps 500 as soon as I received it, using the suggested voltage and times specified in the booklet. After 2 weeks of using it daily suddenly I noticed my hands were dry!! I couldn't believe it. I was scared of getting too excited about it as I thought the dryness wouldn't last very long and things would be back to how they used to be.
There have been periods where I thought the treatment stopped working as I my hands and feet started to sweat but nothing compared to how they used to. Whenever that's happened I went back to treating them daily for at least a whole week.
I have increased the voltage a bit (hands 18v/15 min and feet 35v/15 min - direct current) and things seemed to have improved when I did that but now reading some of the posts I'm not so sure if I'm using the right voltage. I do maintenance treatments 2/3x/week using the same voltage/times, however, I'm not sure if that's too little or too much.
I wouldn't say I have achieved 100% dryness but I'd say at least 70% which is amazing compared to how I used to sweat. I don't have problems shaking people's hands anymore and I have become more confident although my feet can bother me at times as I feel they are cold and my socks are damp.
Lately I've been having a bit of a problem with the skin between my toes which looks broken as if I had athletes foot. I've tried different creams for it and nothing helps the skin to heal. Also the skin of my feet is very dry and I'm scared of using creams as it can make them sweaty. If anyone knows or can suggest anything that I can do to improve it, it will be greatly appreciated.
Nevertheless, I'd say I'm very happy with the treatment and I know it is something I'll have to do for the rest of my life and if that is what it takes I'm up for it.
I do hope other people can get to a stage where they are happy with the outcome of their treatment as I am.
Good luck.

Many thanks for your success post with iontophoresis.

We have a post where you can read about the Iontophoresis treatment and how you should set it up for beginners to find a persons optimised therapy setup. https://www.iontodevice.com/hyperhidrosis/introduction-to-iontophoresis-initial-treatment-t326.html

Even through the fact you are an experienced user with iontophoresis, it looks for me that maybe several points can be enhanced.

To your concerns:

Quote:

This is totally normal. there are always times when the skin needs more or less currents to stay dry. You have to figure out yourself, but you can be sure that something is wrong, when treatments are not so effective than in the past. There are several reasons why this can occur, but mostly it has to do with the current strength. For example, if you start to sweat a little bit, this can be a sign that you treated either to short, less frequent or with too low current. You have to obtain a certain dosage. If you are under the dosage in a certain timeframe you need to stay dry, you will start to sweat again.
if you done to much, or brought in too much dosage into the skin, your skin starts to get too dry, this leads into an iontophoresis overtherapy.

hands 18v/15 min and feet 35v/15 min - direct current

If your skin is confident with higher current, it points, that current for the hands maybe can improved by switching the iontophoresis machine to pulsed current. As pulsed current is not so strong in the therapy feeling, you maybe can increase the voltage settings, in order to bring down the treatment times, or the treatment frequency.

I would say that it would be better to be 100% dry...

By answering both questions, I would have to chance to evaluate basic problems.

Have you cured your athletes foot?
If yes, I would suggest, that you use our special iontophoresis after-care lotion to be found here

If not, it is the best idea, to get rid of athletes foot first, because it leads to a bad skin condition, which is contraindication for iontophoresis. Iontophoresis works best with healthy, elastic skin condition

Thanks for your prompt reply.
I'll try your suggestions and hopefully I'll achieve 100% dryness. That's something to look forward to.
As treating the athletes foot, I don't really have it. It just looks like it because of the condition of the skin between my toes. I've got the feeling it might be caused by the skin being constantly damp in that area. I've talked to my GP and was recommended creams for it which didn't do anything. No improvement in the skin condition at all.
I've been having a treatment break for about 2 weeks now and most of the time I'd say my hands have been dry however, my feet feel sweaty.
I'm going to start it again and will let you know how I get on with it.
Thanks again.

Hi.
I didn't manage to join the 'iontophoresis users' group and I registered again as the email I used when I bought my machine is different to the one I use now. I tried again to join the 'iontophoresis users' but didn't manage to find anywhere on the page where I could ask to join it.
Sorry for being a bit dumb but am I doing something wrong?
Thanks.

ok, we cannot find either the previous, nor the mail - address you have with the new username. pls send us the bill number so we can recheck...
maybe you used another mail address. It is always helpful to register and get the prio support when you buy a iontophoresis machine, now we are 6 years back... we have a customer base, but you are not in it with these mail addresses .. you can also send me your name and address (from 6 years back) and i will search for... and when i find you i will setup the new mail above for you manually
