the towels are cotton, they can be washed, althoughthey do not not look very fine after some usage, discolouring does not have any impact on the success of iontophoresis
for the cleaning of the electrodes please read this:

surly a good cleaning helps to prevent discolouring, but after some time they do not look pretty, as towels do after a certain time.
You can use any other thick cotton towel instead, or you can switch to distance grids

I've noticed that the hand towels are getting possible rust (copper/brown colored) spots on them and increasing in number with use. Can you recommend a way to remove these spots? I have stainless steel electrodes and I did notice the discussion posting regarding the best way to clean the electrodes. Will this affect the effectiveness of the iontophoresis? Perhaps they just need to be cleaned and this will prevent the discoloration on the towels.
