Discoulouring of electrodes used with Iontophoresis machines is mainly confined to the + pole electrode, the one that has a stronger effect ....

For stainless steel electrodes: This is normal and you do not have to worry about it . Sometimes there are some sort of swarfs from the production reacting with a certain water ( not in every case), and if they are not cleaned thoroughly to spring-clean it can cause "pimples" in the metal, and this can only be prevented for the future when you etch or stain it again.

The electrodes were cleaned a lot of times and most of them have also a protective foil on them to prevent this as good possible...

This is the same for aluminium electrodes too:
sometimes it comes from the skin, there is a lot of fat and other things on the Skin and this can also cause discolouring of the water and the electrodes.

Sometimes it is the water itself that contains a certain sorts of minerals...

you can clean the electrodes like this --> https://www.iontodevice.com/hyperhidrosis/cleaning-and-care-spare-parts-t51.html

However you can see it as a good sign that the electrodes WERE new and not used ones.. our Iontophoresis devices are able to drive a high Iontophoresic current, and this you can see also on the electrodes, after one use they should look different, or else the Iontophoresis current is a very weak one.
